About

Dr. Charné Furcron has over thirty years of experience as the Program Architect at Moving in the Spirit, where she has integrated community-based dance/movement therapy (DMT) with positive youth development into the organization's programming. Currently, she serves as an adjunct professor and clinical supervisor for DMT at Lesley University and played a key role in launching the first DMT program in the South at Brenau University.

Dr. Furcron has co-authored book chapters and peer-reviewed articles, and she has presented her research on community-based DMT, intersectionality, and youth development both nationally and internationally. while serving as the Multicultural Diversity Chair on the American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA) Board, she led her committee to win an Innovation Award in 2019 and received the Exceptional Service Award in 2020. Additionally, she earned the Executive Director’s Award in 2020 and the President’s Award in 2022 from the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO). Dr. Furcron is also a founding member of the Southern Chapter of ADTA.
