About this Program

A new way of working with trauma

Traumatic experience can disrupt the sensory systems that tell us where we are, what is happening around us, what is happening inside us, and whether we are safe. It can alter how sensation is processed, how the brain detects threat, how the body organizes movement and defense, and how experience becomes integrated into memory and meaning.

Applied Neuroscience for Trauma Healing brings this emerging understanding of the traumatized brain directly into practice.
Across three intensive weekends, you'll learn to work with the eight sensory systems, the neural networks involved in trauma and recovery, the sensory-motor and autonomic systems, memory, affect, and narrative.

You'll learn how to recognize where these systems have become disrupted or disconnected, develop an individualized Sensory Profile, and use the Somatic Applied Neuroscience protocols to guide how you work with what you find.
The program brings these pieces together into an integrated clinical approach, giving you a more precise way to understand where trauma has disrupted integration, what may be keeping those patterns in place, and how to work with the brain and body's capacity to reorganize and heal.

The Curriculum

The curriculum moves from understanding how trauma reorganizes sensory processing,
neural networks, memory, and affect into the clinical application of sensory assessment and
the Somatic Applied Neuroscience protocols.

01

Weekend One

The Traumatized Brain: Networks, Fragmentation & Memory

OCTOBER 24–25, 2026 | 10:00AM – 5:30PM ET

Learn how to recognize the ways trauma can disrupt sensory processing, threat detection, memory, affect, dissociation, and the neural networks involved in our experience of self and the world. You'll develop practical ways to map where fragmentation is occurring, distinguish different patterns of trauma response, and use that understanding to determine where and how to intervene.

Weekend Two

Rebuilding the Sensory System

NOVEMBER 14–15, 2026 | 10:00AM – 5:30PM ET

Learn how trauma can disrupt vestibular and proprioceptive processing, touch, interoception, sound, vision, smell, taste, and the gut-brain axis—and how those disruptions can affect regulation, movement, orientation, connection, and the felt experience of the body. You'll learn somatic and sensory tools for working with each system, including ways to restore sensory-motor integration, recalibrate sensory processing, and help the nervous system develop new patterns of response.

NEUROSCIENCE SPECIALIST
Read Bio Close Bio
Dr. Kate Truitt, PhD, MA, MBA is a clinical psychologist, applied neuroscientist, and international educator whose work sits where rigorous research meets real nervous systems—especially those shaped by trauma, chronic stress, grief, and long seasons of survival. She translates complex brain-and-body science into ethically grounded, evidence-based tools that support the full continuum of care: individuals healing in real time, families rebuilding after rupture and loss, clinicians and treatment teams, peer supporters and community leaders, and the organizations carrying trauma-exposed systems.

She is the creator of the NeuroTriad Model and Brain Partnership, integrative frameworks grounded in affective neuroscience, psychophysiology, interoception, and experience-dependent neuroplasticity. Her work examines how threat exposure reshapes circuits tied to detection, regulation, executive function, and relational safety—and how those systems can reorganize through repeated, targeted experiences that restore agency and capacity over time.

Dr. Truitt leads the award-winning clinical practice Dr. Kate Truitt & Associates, serves as CEO of the Trauma Counseling Center of Los Angeles, and is Executive Director of The Truitt Institute and the Amy Research Foundation (501(c)(3)). She hosts the YouTube channel Empowering Brain Smart Mental Health for All and is the author of her memoir Keep Breathing, the international bestseller Healing in Your Hands, and the bestselling Brain Partnership Toolbox.

Wendy D'Andrea

Wendy D'Andrea

Clinical Psychologist
Read Bio Close Bio
Dr. Wendy D'Andrea is a clinical psychologist whose work examines how chronic and interpersonal trauma reshape emotional, cognitive, relational, and physiological systems across development. Her research centers on complex trauma and complex PTSD, with particular attention to how adaptations to trauma are embodied in attention, shame, dissociation, and nervous system functioning.

Her lab integrates psychophysiology, experimental methods, qualitative inquiry, and community-based research to understand how trauma reorganizes both subjective experience and biological processes. Across projects, she asks how individuals adapt to environments marked by threat, and how those adaptations can be understood not only as symptoms, but as meaningful responses to context.

Her work bridges laboratory research with real-world settings, including residential treatment programs, schools, and global communities impacted by collective violence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is this program designed for?
This program is designed for a wide range of practitioners and helping professionals, including therapists, psychologists, coaches,
somatic practitioners, yoga therapists, movement therapists, physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, bodyworkers, mindfulness
teachers, and other wellness and healthcare professionals. It is an education program, not a licensing program.
Do I need to attend live, or can I watch recordings?
All live sessions will be recorded and made available in your online library within 48 hours. You can attend live, watch recordings, or do both — and you are still eligible for the certificate of completion either way. Please note: live attendance is required for CEU credits, and live captioning is only available during live sessions.
Is this a theoretical or experiential program?
Both, by design. While the neuroscience is taught rigorously, the primary focus is experiential — connecting science to felt experience and clinical application in every session. You'll leave each weekend with tools and frameworks you can use immediately in your practice.
Will I receive a certificate?
Yes. You'll receive a certificate of completion once you've completed the sessions, submitted your Self-Evaluations and Reflections, and full payment has been received. Licensed therapists or health professionals may use the title "Applied Neuroscience Trauma Therapist." Non-licensed individuals may state they integrate somatic neuroscience principles into their practice.
Will Continuing Education Units (CEUs) be offered?
CEUs are available for eligible health professionals upon completion of the live training. Live attendance is required. CE credits for psychologists are provided by the Spiritual Competency Academy (SCA), approved by the American Psychological Association. The California Board of Behavioral Sciences accepts these credits for LCSW, LPCC, LEP, and LMFT license renewal. Contact info@theembodylab.com for details.
What is the refund policy?
We offer a Registration Guarantee: if you register and decide this program isn't right for you, we'll refund your fee in full — no questions asked — up to 48 hours before the program begins.
