TRAINING EXPLORATIONS
Open to anyone (i.e yoga teachers, therapists, parents, teachers, etc.) who wishes to addresses stress from a multidisciplinary holistic approach.
This comprehensive 5-day Somatic Stress Release™ Level II: Intermediate training follows our Level I: Foundations course. Students will gain a deeper understanding of the underlying psycho-physical patterns associated with stress while promoting well-being through the lens of body-oriented therapies.
Stress related health challenges are now a widespread global issue. Research links stress to physiological conditions like cardiovascular distress, immunosuppression, and gastro-intestinal problems. Stress adversely impacts attention, concentration, critical thinking, and other cognitive functions. Family and social relationships suffer.
Chronic stress wreaks havoc on our health, impacts biological energy conservation, and makes us less attuned to the need for self-care. When a person encounters stress they form neuromuscular patterns to manage and protect themselves from the situation. A person maintains this activation even after the stressor is eliminated. This behavior prevents them from properly processing or mobilizing the stress. Similarly, individuals can get trapped in thought cycles which continually activate a physiological response, limiting their tolerance and capacity to manage additional stressors.
A physiological stress response happens throughout every system of the body, ultimately interacting with every cell. It’s no wonder that stress responses are interwoven with our emotions, immune function, thoughts, breath, and movements. Somatic Stress Release™ is a holistic approach that recognizes the complex layering of each individual's relation to stress. Stress manifests itself in each person’s body differently. Understanding this unique body response allows each person to process and navigate the intricate layers of stress. One of the most effective pathways towards that awareness and negotiation is through feeling a deeper sense of and connection with the body-mind, an approach called somatics.
In this somatic approach there is a recognition that we engage with others and the world through sensations and movement. As stress is something experienced and expressed through the body, a somatic or body-focused approach can more quickly address habitual responses to internal and external stressors.
In addition to utilizing body-based stress release techniques, this immersion will also integrate experiential anatomy and physiology, mind-body medicine techniques, elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy, Neuro-Linguistic Programing, movement meditations, and yoga nidra.

The Somatic Stress Release™ Training will prepare you to:
Work with your self or clients to recognize blocks in the stress response cycle and address them from a unique and humanistic lens.
Gain a deeper understanding of the biological, social, and psychological aspects of stress for each client.
Identify somatic symptoms and triggers for emotional and physical distress.
Identify what techniques are needed for your client in each moment.
Learn to work with stress as it is reflected in facial expressions, posture, muscular patterns, or other forms of body language.
Learn cognitive reframing and stress tolerance techniques.
Explore self hypnosis for relaxation.
Learn neuromuscular repatterning procedures to release unconscious habituated stress cycles.
Identify yours and other’s resources for negotiating stress.
Learn embodied mindfulness and resilience training techniques.
Apply body work techniques to yourself or others to prepare them to release stored arousal energy.
Engage in movement meditations and breath work to release trapped or stored arousal energy.
Apply manual-therapy techniques to guided meditation.
Stop burnout and rebuild depleted biological resources.
Learn to take control of your relationship to stress in order to live a life of greater well-being.
* This is an experiential training. Participants will be expected to explore personal stressors and work in both the client / practitioner role through out the training.
* Please note that as this is a somatic training, there will be an emphasis on moving the body. Please wear comfortable clothes. Movement may include free movement, yoga, and specific actions related to mobilizing stress.
* Please have a pair of massage balls and a bolster on hand for the training.

PRACTITIONER CERTIFICATION
Participants will receive a Certificate of Participation of Somatic Stress Release™ after each module, and will be eligible to receive 30 hours of CEU’s from the Yoga Alliance.
Upon completion of all three Somatic Stress Release™ modules as well as four private sessions* with Dr. Scott Lyons or a Somatic Stress Release™ Practitioner, you will be eligible for your 100hr Somatic Stress Release™ Practitioner Certification.

ABOUT YOUR TEACHER
Dr. Scott Lyons
Dr. Scott Lyons is dedicated to teaching embodiment as a way of exploring human development, healing, growth and transformation. His deep passion is to integrate somatic practices, transpersonal inquiry and scholarly research into the creative and healing arts.
Scott is a Clinical Psychologist and Mind-Body Medicine practitioner who specializes in therapies for infants, youth and adults. He is a Certified Body-Mind Centering™ Teacher and Practitioner, Cranio-Sacral Therapist, Visceral Manipulation Therapist, Neuro-Developmental Therapist, Infant Developmental Movement Educator, Registered Movement Therapist and Educator, Trauma Therapist, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, Thai Massage Practitioner, Clinical Hypnotherapist, Mindfulness-based Executive Coach, Experiential Anatomy/ Developmental Movement and Yoga Practitioner, and a 500-hour registered yoga teacher. Additionally he holds a BFA in Theater/Psychology, MFA in Dance/Choreography, MS in Clinical Psychology, and a PhD in Clinical Psychology and Mind-Body Medicine.
Scott is the co-creator of Embodied Flow and has had the privilege of teaching Embodied Flow and Body-Mind Centering workshops and trainings throughout the United States, Europe, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand and Asia. He was an adjunct professor at New York University from 2007-2010 where he co-taught the Viewpoints Studio with Mary Overlie. As an artist, Scott’s work has been performed at BAM, Symphony Space, Dance New Amsterdam as well as theaters throughout the United States and Europe.
Foundational to Scott’s teaching is the principle that we can, through intention, expand our capacity to meet and be met. In this way, we can offer the profound gift to our self, others and the environment of being heard, seen, and feeling felt at a cellular level.
