Adverse childhood experiences generate displacement, disembodiment, and shame. These experiences challenge self-worth, thwart creativity, discourage our clients from fully embodying themselves, and inhibit them from living their authentic self-expression.

At the heart of developmental trauma are the wounds of repeatedly not being seen, not feeling a sense of worth, and not realizing a sense of belonging. This can happen through neglect, abuse, displacement due to disaster, medical trauma, long separations from family/community systems, intergenerational trauma, and systemic oppression. These adverse experiences often leave clients feeling relationally disconnected or dissatisfied, feeling too close, too far away, or both.

They can grow into adults, have relationships (if desired), raise children (if desired), have gainful employment, and still have a strong sense of not existing, not mattering, and not having an inner sense of worth or sense of self. This holding stems from these experiences living deep within their tissues - once a protective mechanism, now a hindrance.

Treating Developmental Trauma as a practitioner can be challenging because the signs are often masked by more recent traumas. This program will help you to identify, in the body, preverbal neglect and attachment wounds, explore what could have been missing, and learn specific tools to help restore your clients' sense of agency, direction, and purpose.

In our time together, we will:

  • Define the roots of developmental trauma and how the missing elements affect the body

  • Understand ways to repair what was lacking in the client's development

  • Utilize somatic practices to track the signs of developmental trauma and help reset the nervous system back to a more authentic place of being
