How Somatics Helps Heal
‘Soma’ is a Greek word for ‘the living body known from within’, or known to the Self. This ‘knowing’ signifies wholeness. Somatic therapy is an experiential approach towards mind-body integration. The pain, overwhelm, and coping responses manifested by trauma take us away from feeling at home in our body, and as a result there is often a split within ourselves.
Somatic Therapy helps:
Restore the body as a place of safety while helping to expand the capacity to process body (preverbal and nonverbal) memory
Metabolize unprocessed emotions
Complete thwarted (incomplete) stress responses
Restore our optimal relationship to our self and the world around us
Somatic trauma therapy offers techniques for clients to sense and regulate their own physiology and states of being. This includes building more internal and external resources, building trusting and co-regulatory relationships, learning to turn inward with compassion, being invited deeper into the body, and being given time and space to process the trauma. These somatic techniques unwind trauma and restore well-being.

Benefits of Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy
In recent years the use of psychedelics and plant medicines in therapy has experienced a renaissance and is now in full bloom with research and practice taking place all over the world on how these medicines can treat a range of conditions including PTSD, depression, anxiety, eating disorders and addiction.
Research has also shown that psychedelic-assisted therapy reduces the impact of grief, depression, and anxiety - especially when other methods of treatment have failed. They also induce neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to change and reorganize thought patterns, enabling people with psychological disorders to find new ways to process anxiety, depression or deeply embedded trauma.
Psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy has now become part of the mainstream and evidence exists for its significant impact on trauma healing and its applications for therapy, counseling, psychology, and activism.
“Trauma is at the root of so much of our pain and what holds us back from thriving. Somatic psychedelic treatment is one of the most comprehensive and fast-acting modalities in healing trauma, deepening our embodiment, and rewiring relationships,” says Dr Devon Christie, co-director of this program.
People often report spiritual experiences and that life becomes much more meaningful after an experience with psychedelics. Evidence also suggests that psychedelic-assisted therapy can improve connections with others, increase tolerance, understanding and empathy, as well as deepen intimacy and trust in relationships.
Above all, research suggests that the power of psychedelic-assisted therapy is that it doesn’t just offer relief of symptoms, but instead offers the potential for permanent healing of previously intractable and persistent symptoms and conditions.
