Through a somatic approach to attachment therapy we learn how to help ourselves and others to rewire and reconnect, at all levels regardless of the past. Ultimately to experience an embodied sense of belonging and fulfillment.

In this Two-Day Summit we bring together some of the world’s leading experts in Somatic Attachment Therapy to explore how healing the wiring of relation wounds can create a culture of connection, compassion and more nurturing relationships with those that matter to us most—our communities, partners, families, children and our friends.

Somatic Tools for Healing Anxiety in Relationships

A 75 MINUTE EXPERIENTIAL SESSION

Anxiety, avoidance, and overwhelm are common and at times debilitating barriers to close relationships and intimacy for many people - even when we "know" on a logical level that we are experiencing anxiety, it often feels difficult or impossible to lower the intensity of the body sensations that signal danger and distress. Join Kai Cheng Thom, MSc, Certified Professional Jungian Life Coach and Certified Somatic Sex Educator for an illuminating session on how somatic frameworks and tools can be used to not only compassionately hold and soothe relational anxiety, but also to access the wisdom hidden within. Combining a somatic and depth psychology approach, Kai Cheng will offer participant practical techniques that can be applied for immediate relief from anxiety and powerful transformation in one's relational life, including: Noticing and "meeting" relationship anxiety on the body level, the Window of Transformation Model for relational conflict transformation, movement and breath techniques for discharging anxious energy, and mapping the cycle of anxious and avoidant attachment strategies.

Dr. Dan Siegel

Cross-Generational Trauma and Personality: How Overwhelming Experiences, Genetics, and Epigenetic Inheritance Shape Who We Are and Who We Can Become

A 75 MINUTE EXPERIENTIAL SESSION

This presentation will explore the Patterns of Developmental Pathways (PDP) framework of personality and how traumatic attachment experiences may interact with innate temperament—influenced by both genetic and epigenetic factors--shape the enduring patterns of emotion and its regulation, thinking and meaning-making, and behavioral habits that we call “personality.” Understanding the role of subcortical influences on motivation and affect can greatly help in gaining insights into how overwhelming experiences early in life may impact the cortical learning that contributes to our adaptive strategies of survival. Practical applications of this PDP approach to working clinically with those who’ve experienced various challenges to secure attachment including developmental trauma will be explored. Cultural influences on how each of these patterns of personality express themselves in life will be discussed.

Ann Weiser Cornell

Inner Relationship Focusing as Somatic Healing

A 75 MINUTE EXPERIENTIAL SESSION

Inner Relationship Focusing is an integrative somatic therapy practice that puts the body at the center of emotional healing. Body is interactive process, and includes "mind" and our sense of meaning. Your body has always known the next right steps of your life, including your need for secure attachment, even when what you needed was not available to you. Through cultivating a compassionate observing self, you can be a healing presence for the hurt and shut down places felt in the body, thus offering yourself the secure attachment that had been missing. And you can help your clients become this healing presence for themselves as well.

Dr. Fanny Brewster

Creating Sacred Self-Care Through Body Consciousness

A 75 MINUTE EXPERIENTIAL SESSION

The ability to have an awareness of how best to provide Self-Care can evade us. It oftentimes takes time, patience and endurance to provide the best care of self that we are capable of during our lifetime. Aging of course, causes changes during our lives. Body Consciousness is being awake to not just the physical demands of the body but also how we move with time, within the space of a phenomenological field and within a consciousness of suffering and healing. My sharing today focuses on the varied ways we can deepen actions of Body Consciousness that bears sacred Self-Care through this deepening. We are more than the genetics of our parents; we are also in the flow of the ancestral lineage that addresses our psyche. The work of deepening consciousness provides us with a gift of healing in a multitude of ways that can provide grace for a life well lived.

The Role of Somatic Attachment in Relational Repair

A 75 MINUTE EXPERIENTIAL SESSION

When conflict arises, our nervous systems instinctively search for cues of safety and connection–but too often, unmet attachment needs and nervous system dysregulation get in the way. Without understanding what our bodies are truly longing for in these moments of relational distress, repair attempts can fall flat, leaving us feeling even more disconnected. This presentation dives into four key attachment needs that are essential for creating a somatic sense of safety and security. We’ll explore the practical tools for showing up with warmth, curiosity, and emotional attunement when it matters most and learn how to turn moments of disconnection into opportunities for deeper trust, intimacy, and relational resilience.

Cyndi Darnell

Nurturing Intimacy Where We Find It: Cultivating Love When Traditional Attachment Figures Aren't Reliable

A 75 MINUTE EXPERIENTIAL SESSION

Many of us grew up in contexts that were less than nurturing and supportive and many of us have since learnt that attachment happens mostly (or only) in adult intimate / romantic relationships. But what if romantic relationships are not available for us to enrich our attachment experiences and heal from complex family histories? In this workshop we will explore alternatives to traditional attachment figures and consider the role of healing attachment through sources of love from expansive community and chosen family, fluid, polyamorous and queer love perspectives.

Jessica Montgomery

Investigating Safety & Safeness

A 75 MINUTE EXPERIENTIAL SESSION

Somatic healing unfolds within a relational container of safe-enough-ness. Though safeness must be a mutual experience, it is the practitioner’s responsibility to initiate and sustain conditions needed for each individual client to turn toward their own vulnerability and the possibility of transformation. This experiential session offers somatic techniques for exploring the subjective experience of safeness. Working with both physiological safety, and the limbic state of safeness, we explore tools such as mindful awareness, pendulating, anchoring and co-regulation.

Manuela Mischke-Reeds

Anchoring into Secure Attachment

A 75 MINUTE EXPERIENTIAL SESSION

Attachment and trauma-informed therapists are deeply attuned to the effects of insecure attachment styles within the therapeutic relationship. Through carefully tailored relational interventions, these therapists work to address these patterns. Research indicates that secure attachment fosters better emotional regulation, greater resilience to stress, and improved mental health outcomes. Studies also show that secure attachment is linked to increased levels of oxytocin, the 'bonding hormone,' which enhances trust and emotional stability. Research suggests that therapists may unintentionally miss opportunities to foster secure attachment moments. Studies show that therapists' own attachment styles influence their ability to form secure therapeutic alliances, with insecure therapists potentially struggling to provide the relational safety necessary for healing. In this presentation, we will explore how to recognize moments of security in therapy and deepen relational intimacy with clients in a safe and supportive way.

Dr. Judy Ho

Rewiring Self: How Attachment Shapes Self-Concept, Self-Talk, and Core Beliefs—and Practical Steps to Reparent Yourself for Lasting Change

A 75 MINUTE EXPERIENTIAL SESSION

In this workshop, we dive deep into how early attachment styles lay the foundation for our self-concept, self-image, and internal narrative. Participants will explore the ways attachment impacts core beliefs and self-talk, often shaping our approach to relationships, self-worth, and personal goals. Through an understanding of attachment theory, we’ll uncover how insecure attachments can lead to negative self-talk and rigid core beliefs that hold us back. Attendees will gain insight into practical, effective reparenting strategies that address these issues at the root, promoting healing, resilience, and positive self-transformation. Reparenting exercises will offer tools to reshape self-beliefs, develop self-compassion, and replace limiting inner narratives with supportive self-talk. This workshop is designed to provide actionable steps to rewrite your (and your clients’) story, fostering a secure self-concept that aligns with one's true potential.

Dr. Stan Tatkin, Kai Cheng Thom, and Dr. Scott Lyons
